World Sleep Day highlights the importance of quality sleep for physical health, mental wellbeing, concentration and decision-making.
For personnel working shift work and night duties, maintaining healthy sleep habits can be particularly challenging.
Good nutrition and hydration can also play an important role in supporting quality sleep and overall wellbeing.
69.3% of Garda Personnel respondents in the 2024 Health & Wellbeing Survey reported experiencing some level of difficulty with sleep.
This was particularly common among those working shift patterns and night duties.

Free Health & Wellbeing Webinar Series
To mark World Sleep Day and Nutrition & Hydration Week, the Garda National Health and Wellbeing Office have partnered with Lena by Inspire to deliver a 3-part wellbeing webinar: Nutrition and Sleep, the connection for An Garda Síochána Personnel.
Nutrition Consultant Sal Hanvey will share practical advice on how diet and hydration can improve sleep quality and reduce fatigue.

Looking After Your Health and Wellbeing
Fatigue can affect safety, focus, mood and decision-making.
If sleep difficulties are impacting your health and wellbeing, support is available through the Employee Support Programme (ESP) in partnership with Lena by Inspire.
This 24/7 confidential helpline and counselling service provides immediate support and a proactive space to check in.
Personnel can access up to 6 counselling sessions.
