Garda Health and Wellbeing Strategy: 2 years on - the story so far
Our Health and Wellbeing Strategy was launched on 4th May 2021, and set out the steps to ensure that our vision of a holistic approach to the health & wellbeing of all personnel is embedded across the organisation. Our workplace has a unique set of challenges and we are aware that good mental health and physical health strengthen our resilience. We are committed to providing appropriate services and supports are available to all, as required. We will continue to understand and address and address the issues affecting our staff and to keep our people supported.
Mental Health First Aid
Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) is the initial help given to someone when developing a mental health problem, a reoccurrence of an existing mental health problem or who is in a mental health crisis. The first aid is given until appropriate professional support is received or until the crises resolves. Mental Health First Aid is an internationally recognised evidence-supported programme. It has been adopted and is used by a number of police services around the world. Mental Health First Aid has been shown to be effective in improving levels of mental health literacy, reducing stigma and improving help-giving behaviours.
