Mental Health First Aid Programme 2024 End of Year Review

As we reflect on the accomplishments of 2024, we are proud to highlight the significant strides made in the launch and expansion of the Embedded Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) programme within An Garda Síochána.

The year commenced with the launch of the programme, where the first cohort of 15 facilitators began delivering the MHFA programme. The inaugural course took place on January 8th, setting the stage for a transformative year ahead.

In February, Cohort 2 was trained, and these 14 new facilitators joined our embedded MHFA programme, beginning their delivery in April.

September marked another milestone as Cohort 3 joined the initiative, with 16 new facilitators beginning to deliver their courses in October.

The programme continued to grow as Cohort 4 undertook their training throughout November and December, preparing 16 additional facilitators to deliver courses in the new year.

Collectively, our 61 embedded facilitators delivered an impressive 120 courses across the country, resulting in 2,098 Garda personnel receiving this vital training. This accomplishment reflects the dedication and commitment of all facilitators and participants involved in promoting mental health awareness and support within our organisation.

From the Garda National Wellbeing Office, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone involved in this initiative. Your efforts have made a significant impact in fostering a culture of care and understanding. As we take a moment to appreciate this year's achievements, we wish everyone a peaceful Christmas period and look forward to the programme kicking off and growing even bigger in the new year. Thank you for your ongoing commitment to mental health awareness and support.
