Menopause in the Workplace Awareness Programme

Supporting you through every phase of change

In line with our ongoing commitment to build a healthy and inclusive workplace, An Garda Síochána is proud to launch the next step in our support for personnel - the Menopause in the Workplace Awareness Programme, available from 1st September 2026.

Building upon our Menopause Guidance Document, launched in February 2023, the Garda National Health & Wellbeing Office (GNHWO) has developed this programme to further empower our personnel with information and practical tools. Recognising that menopause can significantly impact both health and wellbeing and professional performance, this initiative aims to enhance understanding and reduce stigma through a combination of online and in-person engagement.

The programme now forms part of the Your Health in the Workplace pillar of our Health and Wellbeing Strategy 2026-2030, launched in March 2026, underlining our ongoing commitment to keeping our people safe.

Delivered with Catherine O'Keeffe, The Wellness Warrior

We are delighted to welcome Ms Catherine O'Keeffe, the Wellness Warrior, who will guide the online workshops and facilitate the in-person Menopause Cafés.

Online workshops

From 1st September, personnel can access the online workshops via the AGS Portal. The workshops are delivered in bite-sized videos, structured across the following modules:

Introduction; Module 1 - Understanding Menopause; Module 2 - Timeline of Menopause; Module 3 - Symptoms of Menopause (Psychological); Module 4 - Symptoms of Menopause (Physical); Module 5 - Medical Options to Support Menopause; Module 6 - Complementary Therapies; Module 7 - Nutrient Robbers; Module 8 - Practical Supports & Application; Module 9 – Relationships, Module 10 - Bringing It All Together; plus Personal Stories/Testimonials and a Relationships discussion.

In-person Menopause Cafés

A Menopause Café will be held in each region from September 2026, giving personnel the opportunity to connect, share experiences, and hear directly from Catherine O'Keeffe in an informal, supportive setting. The GNHWO is liaising with local groups to align these with events already planned in each area; dates, times and locations will be confirmed in each Region.

Who this programme is for

This programme is designed for anyone who is experiencing, or may in future experience, menopausal symptoms. It is equally intended to equip line managers and colleagues with the understanding and tools to support personnel experiencing symptoms.

The Garda Employee Assistance Service and the Human Resources Directorate remain available to employees and supervisors for advice on managing menopause in the workplace.

Looking ahead

We look forward to embarking on this journey together, and to ensuring that every phase of colleagues’ menopausal journey is met with understanding, empathy and support. This programme is another step in the efforts of An Garda Síochána to embed a culture of dignity and respect in the workplace in line with our Health and Wellbeing Strategy 2026-2030.

Please visit the AGS Portal to access the online modules.
